Preston Stout Claims NCAA Individual Title as Auburn Secures Top Match Play Seed

Auburn finished atop the team standings after the final round of stroke play at the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship at Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, California.

The Tigers closed the week at 26 under par to earn the No. 1 seed for match play. Texas finished second at 23 under, while Vanderbilt secured the No. 3 seed at 12 under.

Florida and Oklahoma State tied for fourth at 11 under, while Arizona claimed the sixth spot at 3 under. UCLA, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Stanford all finished at 2 under, forcing a playoff for the final three match play positions.

UCLA and Stanford advanced through the playoff to secure spots in match play alongside Tennessee. North Carolina was eliminated.

Oklahoma State’s Preston Stout captured the NCAA individual title and earned the Arnold Palmer National Individual Champion Award after finishing at 14 under par. Stout carded rounds of 73, 67, 65, and 69 to win by one shot over Alabama individual William Jennings.

Stout entered the final round with a one shot lead after a bogey free 65 on Sunday. He closed with a final round 69, including a birdie on the 72nd hole of the championship to hold off Jennings, who finished second at 13 under after a closing 69.

The victory marked Stout’s fifth win of the spring season and the eighth of his collegiate career, tying him for third most in Oklahoma State program history. He also became the fourth Cowboy to win the Arnold Palmer National Individual Champion Award, joining Matthew Wolff, Jonathan Moore, and Charles Howell.

Auburn’s Josiah Gilbert finished third individually at 11 under, while Vanderbilt’s Will Hartman and Arizona’s Filip Jakubcik tied for fourth at 10 under.
