Texas Senior Christiaan Maas Claims Low Amateur Honors With T10 at Hero Dubai Desert Classic

University of Texas senior Christiaan Maas delivered a standout performance on the professional stage, earning low amateur honors with a tie for tenth place at the DP World Tour’s Hero Dubai Desert Classic on Sunday at Emirates Golf Club.

Maas finished at six under par 282 with rounds of 70, 71, 69, and 72 after receiving an exemption into the Rolex Series event through his No. 2 ranking in PGA TOUR University. He was the only amateur in the field to advance to the weekend.

The Texas senior finished ahead of several current top 100 players in the Official World Golf Ranking, including Viktor Hovland, Thomas Detry, Shane Lowry, Rory McIlroy, Tyrrell Hatton, Tommy Fleetwood, and Rasmus Neergaard Petersen.

Maas entered the week ranked No. 5 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking as of January 21 and has posted three top ten finishes in five starts during the fall season at Texas, including top three finishes at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational and the Jackson T. Stephens Cup.

In October, Maas led Team South Africa to the team title at the 2025 World Amateur Team Championships in Singapore and became the first player from South Africa and the African continent to win the individual title, finishing ten shots clear of the field.

Earlier in 2025, he also recorded a tie for fourth at the Investec South African Open on the DP World Tour.

The Hero Dubai Desert Classic, founded in 1989, is one of the flagship events on the DP World Tour and part of the Rolex Series.
