Arianna Lau Pursues Professional Golf Path After Leaving Northwestern

Arianna Lau has chosen to step away from collegiate golf at Northwestern Wildcats women’s golf to focus fully on her health, training, and long term professional goals.

Lau, a freshman standout from Hong Kong and ranked 33rd in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, competed in one fall semester with Northwestern before withdrawing following the conclusion of the term. She did not enter the transfer portal, signaling that her next steps will center on preparing for a professional career rather than continuing at another college program.

During her brief college tenure, Lau competed in four stroke play events and recorded three top ten finishes. She was ranked 25th in the NCAA individual rankings entering the spring and played a key role in Northwestern’s runner up finish at the East Lake Cup. Earlier in 2025, she advanced to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Women’s Amateur and arrived at Northwestern as the highest ranked recruit in program history.

Lau removed herself from the university roster and shared publicly that her decision was rooted in prioritizing physical and mental well being while dedicating full attention to training, recovery, and competition. She remains eligible for amateur competition in the short term and is qualified to compete in the Augusta National Women’s Amateur this spring, pending her amateur status.

Northwestern, the reigning NCAA champion, now enters the spring season with six players on its roster as it looks to defend the program’s first national title.
