Three players sit atop the leaderboard after the opening round of the Thunderbolt Invitational at Sterling Grove Golf and Country Club in Surprise, Arizona.
Mason Snyder of UNLV, Nate Stevens of Notre Dame, and Collin Hodgkinson of Oregon State each opened with two under 69 to share the lead after round one. All three posted steady rounds on a course that rewarded patience and controlled approach play.
One shot back, David Liechty of Utah Tech and Thayer Plewe of New Mexico are tied for fourth at one under 70. Both remained in contention throughout the day and positioned themselves within reach heading into round two.
Five players share sixth place at even par 71. Teddy Vigna of Oregon, Grant Greazel of Ottawa University Arizona, Stanley Lin of Oregon State, Avery Lazarski of Saint Mary’s College of California, and Drew Miller of Michigan State all stayed level on a day where scoring remained tightly compressed near the top of the board.
The field completed round one at Sterling Grove, setting up a competitive second round with minimal separation among the leaders.
