Arizona State Junior Pongsapak “Fifa” Laopakdee Captures SEA Games Gold After Historic Year

Arizona State junior Pongsapak “Fifa” Laopakdee capped a landmark year by winning the men’s individual gold medal at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand.

Laopakdee pulled away from the field at Siam Country Club’s Rolling Hills Course, finishing at 21 under par after rounds of 65, 66, 66, and a final round 70. His four round total of 267 secured an 11 shot victory, the largest margin in the men’s individual competition.

The SEA Games title comes just weeks after Laopakdee made history as the first Thai golfer to win the Asia Pacific Amateur Championship. That victory earned him exemptions into both the Masters Tournament and The Open Championship, placing him among an elite group of amateurs to qualify for golf’s major championships.

Laopakdee’s performance in Bangkok further underscored his consistency throughout the year, pairing low scoring rounds with steady play under pressure against a strong international field.

The Arizona State standout continues to build one of the most accomplished amateur resumes in the world, adding SEA Games gold to an already historic season.
