Interview Highlights with CGN
Path into golf and early development
Caliguri began playing before kindergarten, introduced to the game by his father. He quickly embraced golf and moved to competitive instruction by sixth grade. Elder High School provided a strong foundation, with postseason success, leadership roles, and a competitive team environment that prepared him for college golf.
Recruiting process and transition to college golf
His recruitment began with extensive outreach to programs, eventually leading to an opportunity at Eastern Michigan under coach Bruce Cunningham. After a coaching change, Caliguri entered the transfer process and ultimately moved to Dayton. Adjusting to college golf required managing travel, qualifying, and a demanding schedule, but he welcomed the structure and competitive rhythm.
Growth at Dayton
Caliguri earned a starting role immediately and responded with a team leading scoring average as a junior. His improvement continued into the fall of his senior year, where he delivered three top ten results and recorded the best round of his college career at the Moraine Intercollegiate.
United States Amateur experience
Qualifying for the United States Amateur represented a major milestone. He advanced by closing his qualifier with late birdies and embraced the atmosphere at The Olympic Club. The experience reinforced the value of routine, discipline, and trust in preparation during high pressure moments.
Scoring breakthrough and competitive mindset
His sixty four at Moraine came from strong driving, consistent approach play, and improved mid range putting. He emphasizes sticking to routine under pressure and allowing preparation to guide decision making during pivotal stretches.
Team environment and senior season outlook
Caliguri returned this fall with confidence after playing the United States Amateur and leading Dayton the previous year. He aims to capture his first collegiate win in his final semester and hopes to help Dayton secure an Atlantic Ten title, a meaningful goal as his coach approaches retirement.
Professional aspirations
Caliguri intends to pursue professional golf after college and views his Division One experience as preparation for that path.
