St. Mary’s Wins Lone Star Championship, Earns NCAA Regional Spot

St. Mary’s women’s golf secured the Lone Star Conference title with a 4 to 1 semifinal win over DBU and a 3 to 2 victory against West Texas A&M in the final at Rockwall Golf and Athletic Club.

The title is the program’s first in the Lone Star Conference and fourth conference championship overall.

St. Mary’s set the tone in the semifinals behind Taylor Wilczek, who posted a 64 to set a program record and match the course record. Her round included 11 birdies and one eagle and resulted in a six stroke win over DBU’s Ella Cheek.

Brielle Burns followed with a 68 in the semifinals and delivered the deciding point in the final, closing out a 71 to secure the team victory.

Manon Verret added a 4 under 68 in the final to earn a point, while Sabree Lefebvre and Sophia Perkins each contributed half points after ties in their matches.

The semifinal result reverses last season’s outcome, when St. Mary’s fell to DBU in a playoff after a tied match.

With the win, St. Mary’s claims the conference’s automatic berth to the NCAA West Regional, scheduled for May 4 to 6 at Pueblo Country Club.
