Background and Development

Henry is the son of J.J. Henry, a three time PGA Tour winner and former United States Ryder Cup team member. He grew up around professional golf but did not initially pursue the game at a high level.

His development accelerated during the COVID period, when he played daily with family. That stretch provided consistent reps and helped build the foundation of his game.

Interview Highlights with CGN

Learning through experience
Henry emphasized that improvement in tournament golf comes from playing tournaments. He noted that competitive reps are essential and cannot be replicated in practice alone.

Transfer decision and opportunity
After two years at Oklahoma, Henry entered the transfer portal to find more consistent playing opportunities. He identified tournament experience as the missing piece in his development and sought a program where he could compete regularly.

Adjustment to Middle Tennessee State
His transition required adapting to a lineup role and learning to compete with freedom. Early results reflected that adjustment, but performance improved as he gained comfort and confidence from event to event.

Support system and coaching
Henry credited a strong support system that includes family, coaches, and teammates. He described his father as a resource while maintaining independence in his own development, and pointed to Coach McEntire as a key influence in creating a supportive environment.

Mindset and approach
Henry approaches competition with a focus on daily improvement rather than long term outcomes. He emphasized staying grounded in his faith and relationships, allowing performance to develop without added pressure.

Leadership role
At Middle Tennessee State, Henry has begun to take on a leadership role within a young roster, focusing on contributing to team growth while continuing his individual progress.
