Gimenez Wins New Year’s Invitational in Playoff at St. Petersburg Country Club

Lucas Gimenez captured the New Year’s Invitational title Sunday at St. Petersburg Country Club in St. Petersburg, Florida, closing with a birdie on the first playoff hole to secure the victory.

Gimenez finished regulation play tied at seven under par 206 after rounds of 66, 68, and 72. He advanced to a playoff with Chase Bauer, Calen Sanderson of Notre Dame, Carson Baez of Richmond, Jacob Lang of Kentucky, and Parker Severs of Florida. The group returned to the 18th hole, where Gimenez converted a birdie to claim the championship.

Bauer matched Gimenez at seven under after rounds of 70, 67, and 69, while Sanderson posted scores of 71, 67, and 68. Baez followed rounds of 66, 69, and 71 to join the playoff, along with Lang at 68, 70, and 68, and Severs, who closed with a final round 65 after earlier rounds of 69 and 72.

Dylan Teeter of UTEP and Alex Heard of Baylor finished tied for seventh at five under par 208. Bailey Sutter, an Alabama commit, and Luke Balaskiewicz of North Florida rounded out the top ten at four under par 209.

The playoff capped a tightly contested week at St. Petersburg Country Club, with six players separated by a single shot after 54 holes.
