Interview Highlights with CGN
Early start and family influence
Brown grew up on a golf course in Westfield where her father encouraged her and her two younger sisters to learn the game. What began as a skill for the future turned into a competitive outlet as she discovered how much she enjoyed playing and practicing.
Middle school and high school support system
She credits a strong circle of coaches and teammates for her junior success. Middle school coach Scott Seager kept practices full of games and competition, which helped her fall in love with high school golf at Westfield. Her high school coach later became a key mentor on the course and during the recruiting process.
Breakthrough at the United States Womens Open
Brown entered United States Open qualifying for the first time with the mindset of gaining experience. Heavy rain and strong wind made the Missouri qualifier one of the hardest rounds she has ever played. With her high school coach on the bag she stayed patient through delays and brutal conditions, finished around par, and learned she had qualified only after holing out on the last green.
Learning from the major stage
The championship itself was unlike anything she had experienced, jumping directly from junior events into a major with large galleries and constant noise. She viewed the week as a learning opportunity and leaned on her caddie to stay calm and handle the pressure.
Choosing Purdue
During recruiting Brown wanted to remain close to home. Campus visits to in state programs led her to Purdue where she connected quickly with the coaches, facilities, and team environment. She describes the fit as something she felt right away.
Freshman year impact
Brown immediately joined the Purdue lineup, playing all fourteen events and leading the team in eagles while posting multiple under par rounds. She points to the NCAA Championship and Big Ten Championship as key moments that showed her she could score on national stages.
Mindset and handling adversity
She admits that dealing with frustration was a challenge at times as a freshman. Her focus now is on staying committed to her process rather than the outcome of a single shot. By emphasizing preparation and pre shot routine she works to control what she can and let results follow.
Pre shot routine and composure
Brown says her routine has stayed consistent over the years and has become automatic. That familiarity helps her settle down before each shot, especially in windy conditions or after a bad break.
Team culture and goals
Looking ahead she wants Purdue to climb the rankings, reach regionals, and return to the national championship. She is proud of the current team culture and is excited to welcome future classes into that environment.
Off course note
When the team is away from competition she leans toward country music and lists Morgan Wallen as her go to karaoke choice.
